YOUTH SUMMIT 2019
On Saturday April 27th, 2019 VIA had coordinated its 3rd Student-Led Youth Summit! Workshops included 1. Youth in the Roundhouse 2. Restorative Justice 3. Fight for our Lives and our very first parent workshop that educated parents about the education lawsuit Yazzie/Martinez vs. State of NM. To learn more click here for our 2019 Summit Report.
KOB 4 Interview
On Wednesday, February 28th 2018 VIA students were interviewed on KOB4 speaking about the student perspective on the recent school shootings that have happened. Here is the link to the full story, also read our message here.
YOUTH SUMMIT 2018
On Saturday, April 28th 2018 VIA hosted our 2nd annual youth summit! Our workshops this year included, Teen Violence/Bullying, Youth Empowerment, What is Environmental Justice?, What are the "isms"? (Sexism, racism etc.), and How to create change (Campaign Planning). Click here to read our Summit 2018 Report.
YOUTH SUMMIT 2017
On Saturday April 22nd 2017 VIA hosted the first ever student-led youth summit in APS history! Our youth summit consisted of trainings/workshops on “How to survive Adulting” (Financial Literacy), What are high stakes testing and how to Opt Out, Youth Empowerment through poetry, Food Justice (what is FJ?), How to build long lasting relationships, and more! Students also received certificates to put in their resume following the event! Check out or Youth Summit Report 2017!
Student-Led Teacher Training
In February 2016 we as VIA led the first ever student-led teacher training! We, as students, had the opportunity to train teachers on issues that we believe needed to be addressed in the classrooms. We wanted teachers to know what safe classrooms look like to us. We talked about The Student Bill of Rights, Trauma, Discrimination and Building student-teacher relationships. The teachers also had an opportunity to ask us questions that they wanted answered from the student perspective.
Fall Festival
In October of 2015 we had our first event which was a fall festival at La Mesa Elementary School. We focused on outreach and building relationships with our community partners.
